GOOD NEWS: Great Support from the UK Government for those who have lost their visa ~ Regional Support Hub

Regional Support Hub: Many of us know people who have lost their jobs in the UK. The UK government has a new scheme to help those who have lost their jobs. If you know someone who has lost their visa, please share this post. It might help them.

Seema Malhotra, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department, advised sponsored care workers to seek help from their regional support hub if they have lost their job due to the sponsor’s licence being withdrawn.

The fact that these people are assisted in using the procedure and are able to submit an application is crucial since it will allow them to regularise their stay. “We want to do everything we can to ensure that that is prevented because anything less puts them in a more vulnerable position,” the minister continued.

The ministers’ advice to healthcare professionals who have lost their jobs is listed below.

The Department for Health and Social Care has been collaborating closely with the Home Office to develop a procedure that will assist displaced care workers in finding new positions in the adult social care industry in the instance of those who are left without a licensed sponsor. To help displaced workers transition into new roles, government representatives are collaborating with 15 regional hubs in England, which are composed of local authorities and adult social services directors.

These regional partnerships have received £16 million this financial year to support them to prevent and respond to unethical practices in the sector. That includes providing funding support to help international recruits understand their rights. It also includes establishing operational processes with regional partnerships to support individuals to switch employers and remain working in the care sector in which they have been impacted when, for example, their sponsor’s licence has been revoked.

Importantly, as part of that procedure, the Home Office sends a customised letter directly to adult social care professionals informing them whether their sponsor’s licence has been revoked. Additionally, it provides them with contacts and instructions so they can contact their regional partnership hub in order to obtain fresh sponsorship and work. The purpose of the letter is to allow adult social care professionals time to seek help before the visa cancellation procedure begins. I am eager to expedite the process, and I will collaborate with ministerial colleagues to make sure that happens and that the process is as efficient as possible.

The Government encourages workers to come forward to regional centres if they feel they are being exploited but their sponsor is not yet the target of Home Office compliance action. We would anticipate that support would be provided to other care workers who approach those hubs, even though the service is primarily for individuals whose employer’s sponsor licence has been revoked. I am aware that some employees may be afraid, but I would reassure them and convey the idea that they should come forward to share their stories and get assistance. The Home Office will waive priority service fees for applications endorsed by regional hubs, specifically for care workers.
