OET Scam: Nurses May Lose Their Jobs, Be Deported
London: The future of 148 Indian nurses working in Britain is uncertain as the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has asked them to provide an explanation for why they may have engaged in malpractice to pass the Occupational English Test (OET). Following August 2022, these nurses showed up for OET at the Chandigarh center in India.
NMC has mandated that the nurses provide an explanation of their stance in an online hearing within a fortnight of receiving this notice. The NMC cautions that failure to comply could result in severe consequences, such as the termination of their PIN numbers.
The nurses would lose their employment in the UK and would even be compelled to return home if the PIN number was cancelled.

In addition to the 148 nursing professionals in the UK, a number of other professionals in the US and Australia have fallen victim to dishonest OET training providers and testing facilities.
Once an OET employee pretended to be an applicant and showed up for the test at the Chandigarh center, the deception was discovered. The OET authorities then alerted regulators in a number of nations that use English proficiency as a prerequisite for obtaining a nursing position to Chandigarh exam misconduct.
The NMC’s move supports recent social media posts alleging that some OET exam centers were purposefully leaking the question papers in order to get money.
Following the revelation of the misconduct, OET officials used their names, nationality, and dates of birth to identify the 148 nurses who are now employed in the UK. They then gave the NMC the information.
The 148 candidates were then notified via email by NMC that their OET exam was canceled and that they would be eligible to retake it for free. As to the NMC, an additional opportunity was granted in light of the potentiality that the candidates could have become victims of a fraud orchestrated by the training facilities.
