Community Support Worker – Ripon Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a Community Support Worker to provide empathetic, person-centred care to persons with various mental health, social or learning issues within a supportive, structured setting.

This role would suit someone with previous experience as a Band 2 or Band 3 Healthcare Assistant or equivalent experience in a care setting. We value a genuine interest in supporting persons with mental health disorders, social care requirements or learning difficulties, good communication skills and a calm, empathic attitude. You will take part in day-to-day care activities, encourage independence and engage with healthcare experts to deliver consistent, quality support.

The role offers access to staff wellbeing courses and the opportunity to purchase additional annual leave to help maintain a healthy work-life balance. The Harrogate, Hambleton and Richmondshire Early Intervention in Psychosis program are delighted to offer a vacancy for a Support Worker to join the team. You will be dealing with service users aged from 14 – 65 who are suffering their first episode of psychosis. The position will also have an emphasis on carers support.

If you are a someone who has expertise working with people with mental health and appreciate being part of a tight supporting team we would very much welcome your application. It is also important to have experience of working with carers.

Due to the nature of the position it is necessary that applicants are able to travel independently within the local area and have access to a decent vehicle that may be used for business use. Adjustments can be considered in line with the Equality Act 2010 if need be.

This role may be eligible for sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route. Job Description:

Ensures the safety, privacy and dignity of all patients by delivering patient focused care, understanding and respecting diversity, including spiritual and cultural views.

To recognise the indicators of patient damage, abuse or neglect including poor clinical practice; to identify issues in respect of the protection of children who may be at risk; and to report all such concerns in accordance with Trust safeguarding policies.

Performs delegated duties within the scope of his/her competence and with due consideration to risk assessment, to assist in the implementation of intervention plans within the multidisciplinary team.

The patients have a spectrum of mental health disorders, may have challenging behaviours and may have relevant tough familial situations.

Completes patient assessment tools accurately summarising in patient care records.

Recognises alterations in patient presentation and responds accordingly, reports and records properly.

Regularly accompanies and supports patients in a variety of community settings, as delegated and dependant on current risk assessment.

This includes social inclusion, integration into the community and transfer to and from suitable settings such as acute hospitals and dentist checkups.

Keeps records and reports physiological observations such as weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse as required.

If trained, will do venepuncture and ECGs as required.

Helps provide health education and guidance on health promotion to patients and their carers.

Demonstrates safe breakaway strategies in response to violence and aggression when necessary

Demonstrates safe handling and movement of patients utilising equipment as appropriate.

Acts as a patient and carer advocate if appropriate and with permission.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma Health and Social Care Level 2 or equivalent
  • Care Certificate
  • Level 2 Key competencies Literacy and Numeracy
  • Successful completion of Trust’s HCA Framework in full throughout 6 month probation period

Experience Required

Previous experience of Band 2/3 HCA or equivalent in a care setting.

Wanted

Experience in working with people with mental/social health problems or learning difficulties.


Knowledge and Skill
