Position Overview
This is a fixed term/secondment to 31/07/2028. If you are a Hywel Dda University Health Board employee applying for this role on secondment, approval for secondment is required from your present management prior to application.
We are recruiting a newly qualified pharmacist, or a pharmacist looking for a change of sector, to join our dynamic, close knit, supportive clinical Pharmacy team at Withybush General Hospital.
You will have the opportunity to work across a range of general medical and surgical wards and be a major member of the multidisciplinary team contributing to safe, effective and evidence based use of medicines to improve patient outcomes.
This post provides an opportunity for someone to flourish within a forward thinking hospital pharmacy department, with good support to improve clinical skills, gain vital experience and move through the early phases of a hospital pharmacy career.
Main Responsibilities
You will be part of a vibrant and progressive pharmacy team and you will:
Provide clinical pharmacy services.
Counsel patients to enhance their comprehension and ensure therapy adherence.
Work with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective medicines use
Actively participate in board and ward rounds and encourage safe prescribing and discharge planning
Encouraging antimicrobial stewardship and schemes for optimisation of drugs.
Contribute to efforts to enhance and improve the quality of services
Delivering teaching and training through supervision and mentorship of junior pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy students and clinical ward personnel
Role Profile
Knowledge & Qualifications
Required
Master’s degree in Pharmacy (4 years or equivalent)
Member of General Pharmaceutical Council (registered pharmacist or pre-registration pharmacy trainee at time of application, must be registered pharmacist at time of start date)
English language qualification – GCSE grade C or above or IELTS score of 6.5 in writing and 6.0 in other elements.
Professional knowledge of medications management systems and process in an integrated NHS.
Work History
Essential
Experience in pharmacy and healthcare knowledge
Desirable
Demonstrated success across more than one aspect of pharmaceuticals management
Hospital experience.
Tech Services
Experience in teaching and supervising preregistration chemists, technicians and assistants.
General practice experience
Language Abilities
Preferred
Welsh Speaker (level 1)
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This role is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (previously known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
