Eligibility criteria

Let’s talk about the eligibility criteria. You must have a valid dependant visa. If yes, then after you must have a valid job offer from an employer who is on the register of sponsor licence holders, then after this job offer should also meet the skill level for the role and be eligible for sponsorship as per the Home Office guidance, the salary offered for the job should be either 38,700 or as per the going rate of the job role, whichever is higher. You can be paid less if you are a new entrant, your job is on immigration salary list or you have a PhD in Stem, your job is as relevant to your subject or you fall under some of the transitional arrangements. Your employer should also provide you with a certificate of sponsorship that is an electronic number for you to then apply for a skilled worker visa.

Financial requirements

The next agenda is the English and the financial requirement to meet the financial requirements. You must be able to show that you have a minimum of £1,270 in your bank account. However, if you have lived in the UK for more than 12 months on a valid visa, or if your sponsor is certified maintenance on your certificate of sponsorship, you do not need to show evidence of funds and to meet the English language requirement, you will have to pass a secure English language test approved by the UK VI, such as IELTS. For UK VI score B1 on the CEFR scale. You may be able to meet the English language requirement if you are national of a major English speaking country, or if you completed a degree taught in English.

Application process

Then gather all the necessary documents which includes your passport, biometrics permit, certificate of sponsorship and proof of English language proficiency. You will then need to complete an online application form on the UK government’s website and pay the relevant fee. And of course, you might have to pay immigration surcharge with your visa application fees as well, which can range from £551 to £1500 depending on your length of the sponsorship as well as your job. If you are on a healthcare worker visa, you may be exempt from paying the immigration health surcharge.

Scheduling your biometric appointment

Next agenda is scheduling your biometric appointment once you’ve complete the online application form, and once you have paid the fees, you will have to schedule a biometric appointment to provide your fingerprints and photo. As at the Visa Centre, you can book the biometric appointment online as per your convenience and upload all your supporting documents before the date of appointment. It can take up to eight weeks for the Home Office to decide your application. The decision can be expedited by paying an additional fee.
