Role specifications:

Every day home duties:

Care for Children – To improve the lives of children in our care, help them to achieve a better future and keep them safe.

Advocate for the young people in the home so that their voice is heard and their rights are upheld. Make sure that children and young people are consulted regarding their care and given opportunity to express their views on the running of the home.

Assist the Registered Manager in Managing the home in accordance with the ethos of Blossom Children by providing an environment that enables each child and young person to achieve their full potential and promote positive conduct.

Any serious concerns concerning safeguarding and/or child protection must be reported to the Responsible Individual and the Responsible Individual must be kept informed.

Ensure the well-being of the children and young people is safeguarded and promoted by the household. having regard to the wellbeing of their users as the first concern in the supply of the service.

Maintain relationships with all those involved in the young person’s life and other stakeholders and partner agencies who are involved in the provision of packages of assistance.

Represent Blossom Children and work within a multi agency framework with external agencies to achieve positive outcomes and safeguarding.

Serious occurrences should be reported to appropriate people within 24 hours.

Ensure that all young people are cared for in accordance with the written placement plans in place and ensure continual evaluation, development and review of all individual plans in accordance with the time schedule stated in the Policy.

Ensure, with the Management Team, effective monitoring and review of all Key working documents inside the home including risk assessments in compliance with Organization Policy.

Ensure that all Medication is stored and administered in accordance with the organization and legal norms.

The home provides a healthy, nutritious and balanced diet to all young people.

Arrange, timetable, diarise and ensure attendance of young person and or necessary personnel at events/appointments/meetings.

Confidentiality of the information of the children and young people and their families.

Promote the physical health and mental wellness of the young people and the education.

Ensure that the social, leisure, cultural and religious needs of children and young people are met.

Referral, assessment and admission processes assistance.

Manage time and resources inside the household, including controlling financial expenditure against budgets and ensuring recordkeeping is accurately done.

Duties to comply with the standards established by the Organization and regulating body/ies:

Meet the legal fitness standards and do all the checks prescribed by Regulation 32 of the Children’s Home Regulations (2015).

To acquire and keep up to current knowledge of the Children’s Homes rules and Quality Standards, the Children’s Acts and other relevant laws and guidelines.

Work as directed to ensure that needed standards are met and when developments are identified through audits and inspections that these are acted upon properly within the suggested timescales.

Be answerable to the Senior Residential Support Workers, Deputy Manager, Registered Manager, Responsible Individual, Registered Provider and Ofsted.

Equality and Diversity work law.

All rules and procedures should be completely implemented and followed to meet legal requirements.

Follow necessary legislation, policies and procedures to ensure the health and safety of children, staff and visitors.

To ensure notice to a “line manager” who?if there are any safeguarding issues and follow all local and national rules for management of these concerns.

Assist other team members to keep the home as an OFSTED Outstanding standard of residential care.

All parts of the premises duties

Support the Registered Manager to ensure the house delivers a positive physical environment, about the design, comfort and homeliness as well as hygiene and cleanliness.

Ensure that any repairs or damage to the organisation’s property or possessions are notified and that appropriate action is taken to safeguard the safety of the young people and other members of staff.

Such other duties as are appropriate to the position.

Position Profile

Desired Experience:

Previous experience, paid or volunteer, with children.

Experience of aiding young people

operated in a multi-disciplinary context

Therapeutic practice with young people.

Anyone who is interested in working with young people.

Knowledge desirable:

Practical understanding of children and young people with emotional and behavioural challenges, Problematic Sexual Behaviour, Child Sexual Exploitation and learning disabilities and behaviours that challenge.

Understanding of local authority care planning tasks and how children’s homes are obligated to assist these

Ofsted inspection framework knowledge

Knowledge and awareness of the obligations and responsibilities that arise from Child Protection and Safeguarding Act as it relates to the function within the organization.

Knowledge and awareness of the rights and entitlements of children and young people in care

Working understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the spectrum of professionals and agencies involved in assisting children and young people

An understanding of and ability to respond favourably to the needs of young people of differing racial, cultural and/or religious backgrounds

Qualifications:

QCF Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services (or prepared to work toward and achieve within 2 years working in a children’s home)

GENERAL ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES/SKILLS:

Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication abilities at all levels and when required

Physically and psychologically able to work in a children’s home

Good administrative abilities including word processing and computer literacy, mathematical and organisational skills

Knowledge of and ability to maintain professional boundaries

Ability to uphold the culture and ethos of the home and display reflective practice, collaborative responsibility, continual progress and trust

Reflective and open to examining one’s own beliefs, ideals and learning from experience

Promote equality and diversity in your own practice and make sure that the service is sensitive to children’s culture, age, religion, colour, sexual orientation and disability

Manage own emotions and conduct with consideration of the influence on others

Young People and Children:

Ability to analyse and identify needs of children and build and deliver plans to satisfy these needs to achieve positive results

Skills in direct care work with children and young people
