Transport and Distribution Manager – UK Visa Sponsorship Available
Transport and Distribution Manager The Transport and Distribution Manager is responsible for the safe, effective and compliance management of the companies transport and logistics operation within the aggregates, asphalt and quarry mineral products sector and beyond. The role will involve managing the movement of materials across the UK with a mixed fleet of commercial vehicles including LGVs, articulated vehicles, tipper trucks and vans ensuring compliance with UK transport legislation, maintaining high service standards and supporting business growth.
Main Responsibilities
Manage the day to day transport and distribution activities to ensure commodities are delivered across the UK in a timely and effective manner.
To manage the operation, utilisation and repair of a mixed fleet of commercial vehicles to ensure maximum operational efficiency and vehicle availability.
Ensure compliance with all relevant UK transport legislation including the Road Traffic Act, Operator Licence requirements, DVSA regulations, Drivers’ Hours Rules and the Working Time Directive.
Organise vehicle maintenance schedules, inspections, servicing plans and fault reporting to ensure roadworthiness and limit downtime.
Recruit, oversee, train and develop drivers and transport professionals, ensuring staff are competent, compliant and up to date with legal and company needs.
Work closely with clients, production sites, planners and drivers to ensure efficient transport operations and high levels of customer satisfaction.
Track transport costs, fleet performance, fuel consumption and operational KPIs, identifying opportunities to increase efficiency and cut operating costs.
Keep accurate transport, compliance and training records and generate operational reports for upper management.
Promote continual improvement through best practices in fleet management, safety, environmental performance and operational efficiency.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Experience in transport, logistics or distribution management in the haulage, construction materials, quarrying or allied sectors is desirable, but complete training will be given to the right individual.
Extensive knowledge of UK road transport legislation, DVSA standards, Operator Licence compliance and fleet management techniques.
Strong organisational, leadership and communication abilities with the ability to manage numerous operational priorities.
Experience of supervision and development of transport staff and drivers.
Familiarity with transport management software, fleet management systems and telematics is preferred.
Education: Master’s degree or equivalent in Transport Management, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Management, Operations Management or similar field.
Additional Requirements
Valid MPQC Connect Card (or willingness to obtain before to starting site based duties).
Experience of driving on LGV/HGV or van is desirable but not needed.
A Transport Manager CPC qualification is recommended but not needed.
