The Technology Industrial Placement Program gives you the opportunity to work in one of our Technology departments: Support, Development and Infrastructure.
Description of Program
Industrial placements are a good way to get first-hand understanding of whatâs possible in a career in banking. This is your chance to experience our culture, to make new connections and acquire essential on-the-job training. Placements are also a great way to be ready for a future full time position. Full time offers will be made to strong performers by Nomura.
Education
Students on placement will get full training so they may build the skills to be successful in their internship. As part of the Corporate Infrastructure Placement Program, you will receive training which will include business overview presentations, structured classroom seminars, internal training by business representatives and team building with colleagues. Your performance will be monitored and you will receive on-going feedback and the chance to attend division specific educational programs to support your professional growth. Managers will be interested in your professional growth and will invest their time in coaching and mentoring you to reach your maximum potential.
While on your Industrial Placement you will be supported by a buddy, mentor and dedicated program management team.
What is your function?
Technology at Nomura is the design and development of cutting-edge information technology and risk management solutions. Quite frequently itâs these systems that might provide us that essential split second edge on our competitors. The work includes in-house creation of complicated modelling software and apps, and also infrastructure support and deployment.
This program gives you the opportunity to design innovative applications that will keep us on top of technology. You will achieve a great technical depth, dealing with a wide variety of technologies (Java, C#, C++, SQL, Python, Perl, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, âŠ) and frameworks (Spring, Maven, Camel, WPF, Node, React, âŠ). Depending on your role, youâll gain an understanding of different financial products, and develop a valuable knowledge of risk management techniques and live trade analysis.
There are many different kinds of jobs in technology. Your role will be in one of the following:
Business Analysts are the middlemen between Technology and the business that can communicate effectively to assist bridge the gap between the two. Each time we make a change to our own software, we need a full understanding and consent from both sides on how things are going to be modified and you as a Business Analyst will be facilitating this. You will meet periodically with company leaders to understand the challenges that are currently occurring and will translate these problems into clear requirements for the Development and Support teams. This position requires analytical skills and the capacity to communicate a concept in more than one domain language.
Software Development
Bespoke software is at the core of what we do and as a software developer you will help build out our ecosystem to enable our clients and traders create and retain a competitive advantage over other banks and businesses on the street. We build much of our software ourselves and you may get engaged in anything from providing real-time risk metrics for our traders to ensuring that payments to other companies are properly aggregated, calculated and executed.â As a software developer at Nomura, you will be developing, building and delivering solutions to suit quickly changing business and regulatory requirements. Must have good coding skills and a logical mind.
Technical Support
Our technical support teams are the initial point of contact between our business users and Technology to support the many systems that are developed in house. As a part of one of our dedicated teams youâll be performing anything from diagnosing and remediating errors in complicated system processes to exploring previously unknown difficulties, all the time in communication with traders or other company workers in a fast-paced atmosphere. Good communication skills and knowledge of technology are needed to grasp the âbig pictureâ and pass information to find a solution to difficulties.

Corporate Technology Services (CTS)
Corporate Technology Services (CTS) â provides business applications to Finance; Compliance; Legal; Human Resources and Real Estate and other Corporate divisions within the Nomura Group. CTS plays a critical role in servicing the Firmâs business demands and future orientation by offering innovative, cost-efficient technological solutions to help underpin our competitiveness; revenue creation and regulatory compliance.
This is achieved by developing and operating the strategic direction and technical architecture of Corporate Technology Services across Wholesale and larger Group organisations; guaranteeing quality, on-time delivery and transparency of progress toward milestones and goals. Teamwork is also part of the bargain, sharing the wins and losses, and making sure we learn regularly and constantly.
CTS provides an atmosphere and culture that attracts the smartest, most determined people and helps them thrive in their positions and careers. They are true partners with the Business and the larger Corporate world, bringing technical experience, ideas, opinions and problem solving skills to the table. CTS also sponsors and supports Firm-wide IT Transformation, cloud, automated toolchain and testing activities.
EIS
EIS – Enterprise Infrastructure Services are responsible for Core IT Infrastructure architecture and delivery at Nomura. It includes cloud and digital technology, systems monitoring, orchestration and automation, and more typical enterprise IT platforms (storage, servers, virtualisation, networks and database). EIS provide technical services to underpin the banks application ecosystem and deliver front to back end user services across technology and business disciplines. With the breadth of employment opportunities expanding, EIS provides not only technology paths in development, product engineering or technical support, but also consultative services that shape solution delivery across the bank in fields like Business Analysis, Project Management and Governance.
GMIT
GMIT – Global Markets Technology builds and supports software solutions for the Global Markets division. Our tools are utilised worldwide in trading, pricing, risk management, analytics, research and sales systems.
Risk IT
Risk IT â Risk IT helps the Risk Management division in the development and maintenance of software solutions that compute market and credit risk exposures and provide group-wide risk management capabilities in line with the firmsâ risk appetite and regulatory requirements.
WPS
WPS â Wholesale Production Services delivers business aligned 1st/2nd line IT Support and is globally accountable for the overall reliability of the systems supporting the worldwide wholesale companies and the supporting functions (e.g. Front Office, Operations, Risk, Finance, Compliance). Wholesale Production Services is responsible and liable for monitoring the environment to proactively identify issues, incident and release management, disaster recovery, capacity and application support.

As a Placement Student you will be required to spend a 12 month year in industry from June 2027 – June 2028 whilst undertaking your degree at university.
Fluent in English is needed.
