Volunteering has been a core element of the service Glencraig provides. Since the 1960’s, an average of 20 to 40 international volunteers have come to Glencraig and stayed for at least a year.
Students and Volunteers
Glencraig is pleased to have local volunteers and students. The above can be involved in four primary areas:
Residential setting — helping persons with learning disabilities in a residential setting.
School Placement — assisting children with a learning disability and complicated needs in education settings.
Training College – daytime activities for persons with a learning disability and complex needs.
International Volunteers are mostly based in the residential environment at Glencraig but in some situations it may be possible to arrange activities in other regions. International Students are normally placed in areas related to their course of study, if a spot is available.
Our application process is in three steps:
Stage 1 – The applicant will complete an online application form and if suitable will be asked for a skype interview. They will be told if they are chosen for the project after the interview.
Stage 2 – If you are successful you will be required to submit an Access NI application (the criminal record check for Northern Ireland) and furnish Glencraig with relevant documents.
Stage 3 – International Volunteers/Students needing a UK visa only. Once they acquire their Access NI approval they will make an application for a UK Charity Worker visa.
The above process can take 3 – 5 months to finish.
