Starting salary: £39,375 (for 39 hour week inclusive of 20% unsocial)

This role may be eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship depending on eligibility and as per the UK Immigration Rules in place at the time of application.

Due to the security condition of this facility, a Counter-Terrorism Check (CTC vetting) will need to be completed.To complete the CTC vetting procedure you will need to provide evidence of the last 3 years UK residency. Who can apply

In order to become a jail officer you will need to:

must be at least 18 years of age before you begin work

fulfil the Civil Service Nationality rules

considering this is a physically active job, you will need to complete a medical and fitness assessment as part of the application process

have at least the minimum eyesight requirement in both eyes (with or without glasses)

All prison officer trainees are required to have a suitable standard of hearing (without the use of hearing aids) for safety reasons

Tattoos are permissible including visible tattoos however these cannot be in any manner offensive, discriminatory, violent or intimidating.

To work in a high security jail (Category A) you must have been a resident in the UK for the last 3 years

Payment

The first training is 37 hours a week. Following your training you may work 37, 39 or 41 hours per week. You will receive a yearly income based on your weekly hours.

37 Hours a week = £37,246 per year

39 hours a week = £39,375 a year

41 hours a week = £41,503 a year

Online Exams

When you submit your initial application form you’ll be requested to complete stage 1 of the online test to assess if you have the fundamental judgement and numerical skills necessary of a jail officer.

If you get through this stage, we’ll invite you to the stage 2 online test (task-based assessment) to check if you have the natural habits and attributes to be an effective jail officer.

The online assessment center (OAC)

If you pass the online assessments, we will invite you to an online assessment centre where we will test to see if you have the skills, behaviours and strengths to be a jail officer.
