India Young Professionals Scheme UK Ballot 2026: Who Can Apply, How Much It Costs
The voting opens July 21 and will finish just 48 hours later, giving Indian grads a final chance at a sponsor-free, two-year UK work visa.
The UK’s second and last India Young Professionals Scheme (YPS) poll commences at 1.30 p.m. India Standard Time on 21 July and expires exactly 48 hours later on 23 July.
Successful applicants can live, work and study in the UK for up to two years without an employer sponsor before they arrive.
It comes under the UK-India Migration and Mobility Partnership initiative that gives out 3,000 visas a year via two polls. Most of the places were assigned in the February draw of lots and this will be the last opportunity for the eligible Indian citizens to apply in 2026.
British High Commissioner to India Lindy Cameron called the programme an initiative to improve relations between the two countries. “The Young Professionals Scheme is a brilliant programme for creating a modern understanding,” she said, encouraging applicants from across India to apply regardless of where they live.
Here’s what you should know before the ballot opens.
Who is eligible to apply for the UK India Young Professionals Scheme?
The India Young Professionals Scheme is for Indian nationals aged between 18 and 30 years who wish to live, work and study in the UK for up to two years.
Applying for a UK work visa does not require a job offer or employer sponsorship. Instead qualified candidates go into a random vote and those selected are invited to file a full visa application.
To be eligible you must:
Must be an Indian National.
Be between the ages of 18 and 30.
You must be at least 18 years old at the time of travel.
Hold a Bachelor’s degree or comparable qualification.
Have personal savings of at least £2,530.
Not have any children under the age of 18 living with you or financially responsible for you.
You must not have been in the UK previously via the India Young Professionals Scheme or the Youth Mobility Scheme.
One requirement that is frequently neglected is the financial evidence. You need to have the required amount of £2,530 in your bank account for at least 28 consecutive days and the last day of the 28 day period must be within 31 days of you applying for your visa.
UK India Young Professionals Scheme Application Process – How to Apply
Applying is done in two parts.
First, there is the lottery, which is free and runs from July 21-23. You may enter at any time throughout the 48-hour timeframe, and early submissions will not increase your odds of winning as all successful entries are selected at random when the ballot ends.
To get on the ballot you will need:
Full name
Birth date
Passport information
A scan or photo of your passport
Telephone number
E-mail address
You may only submit one ballot entry. Duplicate entries will not be counted.
Winners of the ballot will be contacted by email within 2 weeks after the closing of the ballot.
If selected, you will have 90 days to:
Apply for the visa online.
Pay the visa cost and the Immigration Health Surcharge.
Prove your identification via the UK Immigration: ID Check app or a Visa Application Centre.
Upload your supporting documentation.
You’ll normally have to provide:
Passport
Degree certificate
Bank statements
Police clearance certificate
Tuberculosis (TB) certificate if required
Certified translations where applicable.
You have six months to travel to the UK once approved.
What does it cost and what do you get?
There is no charge for joining the ballot yet successful applicants will still need to budget for the visa.
The primary costs are:
Visa application fee: £340
Immigration Health Surcharge: £1,552
Savings requirement: £2,530
The £2,530 is not a payment. It simply needs to remain in your account for the required period before applying.
If your visa is granted, you will be able to:
Stay in the UK for up to two years.
Work in most occupations.
Study.
Be self-employed if eligible.
Travel freely in and out of the UK while your visa remains valid.
However, you cannot:
Extend this visa.
Claim most public funds.
Include dependent family members.
Work as a professional sportsperson or coach.
Should you vote in the poll?
There are fewer places remaining, so competition is expected to be stronger than the first ballot.
However:
Ballot entry is completely free.
No employer sponsorship is required.
No job offer is required before entering.
If selected, you must complete the entire visa process and satisfy all immigration requirements before your visa is granted.
If unsuccessful, this is the second and final ballot of 2026, meaning eligible applicants will likely need to wait until the next ballot.
