UK teachers recruitment: In a statement to educators across the board, Bridget Phillipson stated that there are no “quick and easy solutions” for problems.
In a letter to all employees, from early childhood to higher education, the newly appointed education secretary expressed her desire to “reset the relationship” with the industry.
The Department for Education (DfE) stated that the letter also signalled the beginning of her efforts to hire 6,500 new teachers.
According to the DfE, part of the job include starting up and growing the teacher recruitment initiative Every Lesson Shapes a Life right away.
Prospective candidates are sent by the programme to the Get Into Teaching website, where they can access a nationwide calendar of events, a contact centre, and teacher training consultants for assistance and guidance.
According to the DfE, Ms. Phillipson will soon meet with other leaders in education as well as union chiefs.
During the election campaign, Labour promised that the new government would prioritise hiring 6,500 teachers.
The party promised to levy taxes on private school tuition in order to pay for the new positions, however it is unclear when this will actually materialise.
Opinions on the policy, which appears in Labour’s manifesto, are divided. While some believe it is an unfair tax that will be placed on parents, others contend it is a sensible method of raising money.
Putting education “back at the forefront of national life” and “transforming the image” of teaching were two goals stated by Ms. Phillipson.

Ms. Phillipson stated that her “first priority” on Monday was writing to workforces.
It had been far too long, she claimed, for the teaching profession to be “talked down, sidelined and denigrated”.
Her upbringing on a council estate and her “lucky” attendance at “great local state schools” led her to describe her devotion to education as “deeply personal” in the letter.
Although they appreciated Ms. Phillipson’s message, teaching unions—whose tense relationship with the previous government culminated in several days of strikes last year—asked for immediate action on a number of concerns.
