UK NHS will not be permitted to hire agency staff, Under the proposed reforms

Wes Streeting-backed policies to prohibit the NHS from employing agency staff.

In order to address the lack of physicians and nurses, the Health Secretary wants to restrict hospitals from spending “eye-watering sums” on temporary workers.

Even though agencies charge up to £2,000 for a single nursing shift, the national health service spent £3 billion on these personnel last year.

The plans would prohibit NHS Trusts from using agency workers for entry-level positions like domestic helpers and healthcare assistants.

Additionally, companies might not be allowed to submit employees who have recently quit their regular positions with the NHS.

In the upcoming weeks, NHS England will release the plans for public feedback.

“Desperate hospitals have been forced to pay exorbitant amounts for temporary staff for far too long, costing the taxpayer billions and removing experienced staff from the national health service,” Mr. Streeting told The Mail on Sunday.

“We will no longer allow the national health service to be exploited.”

On Wednesday, Mr. Streeting will meet with leaders of the healthcare industry in Liverpool to announce a number of measures.
