UK Immigration Update : New proposal to restricting health and care visas at 30,000
UK Immigration Update : New proposal to restricting health and care visas at 30,000The former minister of immigration for the Conservative Party has proposed dividing the Home Office into two departments, with one department “whose sole mission is controlling immigration.”
In a report co-authored by the Centre for Policy Studies (CPS), Robert Jenrick has proposed over thirty measures to limit migration.
Voters routinely rank immigration as one of their top issues, therefore it is only fitting that a department dedicated to border security and immigration control be established. The Home Office has shown itself unable of doing that for far too long,” he remarked.
Before the general election, he continued, the Government must “undo the disastrous post-Brexit liberalisations” that “betrayed” the public’s desire for less immigration.
Proposals include adjusting wage thresholds for visa routes in accordance with inflation, eliminating the graduate route for overseas students, and restricting health and care visas at 30,000.

Tory MP Jenrick, Robert
The study for the center-right think tank also recommends splitting up the Home Office to establish a department that is more devoted to border security.
The argument put forth is that net migration must be reduced to “the tens of thousands”.
Regarding immigration, Mr. Jenrick, who is seen to be a possible candidate for the Tory leadership, has been putting more pressure on Rishi Sunak.
Since updated official forecasts released in November revealed that the net migration figure—the gap between the number of people entering and departing Britain—reached a record 745,000 in 2022, he and other conservative MPs have been pressing the prime minister to act.
After the Tories suffered a crushing defeat in local and regional elections, MPs on all sides of the party have called for a change in direction for Mr. Sunak’s political career.
Large-scale migration, according to Mr. Jenrick and his co-authors, Tory former minister Neil O’Brien and CPS research director Karl Williams, has put strain on housing, public services, and infrastructure while failing to produce appreciable budgetary advantages.
“If the Government did not use the time before the general election to undo the disastrous post-Brexit liberalisations that betrayed the express wishes of the British public for lower immigration, that would be unforgivable,” Mr. Jenrick stated.
“With the adjustments we’ve put forth today, immigration would finally return to historical levels and voters would get the highly skilled, highly selective immigration system they were promised.” These laws may be put into effect right now and would put an end to the huge inflow of low-skilled workers.
The Newark Conservative MP resigned from his position as immigration minister in December, citing his disapproval of Mr. Sunak’s plan to deport people from Rwanda and his belief that it would not serve as a sufficient deterrent to prevent asylum seekers from entering in tiny boats.
In an attempt to reduce the amount of individuals entering the country lawfully, the government is enacting a number of new regulations. These include prohibiting foreign carers from bringing their dependents with them and raising the income requirement for skilled workers to £38,700.
“The Prime Minister and Home Secretary have been clear that current levels of migration are far too high,” a government spokesman stated. For this reason, the government unveiled a proposal to remove 300,000 migrants from the UK, the largest-ever reduction in immigration.
According to the most recent data, applications for all three main visa categories have decreased by 24%, demonstrating the effectiveness of this scheme.
“Our approach is fair; it prioritises the foreign workers and students who will make significant economic contributions while reducing immigration and ensuring businesses invest in and hire from the domestic workforce.”
