Principal responsibilities of the position

The holder of the post will:

  • Perform evaluations and reviews of carers.

Have you personally recovered from an eating disorder?

In order to enhance patient experience by reducing hospital care episodes and revolutionising transitions between community and inpatient services, the Sussex Eating Disorder Service (SEDS) is creating an innovative new hospital Transition Pathway (ITP). The ITP will be housed within SEDS, an outpatient program that offers NICE-recommended treatments and strives to give individuals with eating disorders the best care available.

The Eating Disorders Peer Support Worker (PSW) position was created especially for those who have personally recovered from an eating disorder or disorders and have ideally sought assistance from an inpatient eating disorders program. The PSW will serve as a positive role model by exhibiting empathy and sharing aspects of their own experience to encourage others to believe that recovery is achievable.

As a crucial and highly esteemed member of our multidisciplinary team, the PSP will offer service users practical help and formalised peer support, enabling them to take back control of their life and leveraging their unique talents and abilities. Additionally, they will support the Eating Disorders Service in creating connections with community resources and promote and assist service users in using them.

To serve as a role model or mentor for the recovery process and to exhibit coping mechanisms by drawing on personal experience and, where appropriate, sharing portions of your recovery narrative to encourage others

Principal duties of the position:

  • To collaborate with fellow SEDS ITP members in order to avoid hospitalisation and/or enable prompt home discharge.
  • To actively participate in interdisciplinary meetings and help develop and maintain clients’ treatment programs.
  • Collaborate and interact with other MDT members and other services in an efficient manner.
  • To promote a comprehensive approach to treatment and care plans through good communication with family members and carers.
  • To participate in cooperative projects or activities and, if feasible, co-produce or co-facilitate groups
  • To operate independently while being conscious of the constraints of your own role, with the assistance of your line manager.
  • To perform any additional tasks that the manager or supervisor deems appropriate and within the post’s purview.

Qualifications

Health care, pertinent NVQ Level 3, or comparable abilities gained via formal teaching certification or experience
