Scotland’s Six Steps to Becoming an AHP

1. Fill out the application for HCPC eligibility and qualification.

2. Interview

3. Prior to travel

- A score of 8.0 on the English Language Test System (IELTS), with no component below 7.5, or a similar qualification is required for speech and language therapists.
- The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Internet-based Test (IBT), which can be taken in the candidate’s own country, is also accepted by the HCPC. A minimum score of 100/120 is required of all professionals, with the exception of speech and language therapists, who need to score at least 118/120.
- All exams must be taken no more than two years prior to the application date.
4. Certificate of sponsorship
You will be given your registration number after registering with the HCPC.
After that, your employing Health Board will submit an application to the UK Visa and Immigration Authority (UKVI) for your certificate of sponsorship. You will also be given a reference number.
5. Obtaining a visa and visiting Scotland
You need to apply for your Health and Care Worker visa as soon as you have your certificate of sponsorship reference number. Usually, your employing board will cover the cost.

A copy must be emailed to your employing board as soon as your visa application is accepted. After that, travel can be planned.
6. Upon arriving in Scotland
