1. Beannachar Camphill Community

Two miles from Aberdeen’s downtown, in the countryside, is the Camphill Community of Beannachar. A sizable 19th-century home consists of two specially constructed homes, Rose and Linden, as well as one house community, Silver Birch. Along with additional co-worker accommodations (Rowan and Juniper), there are classes for arts and crafts, crafts, weaving, woodworking, sculpture, laundry, candle making, and Tools for Self-Reliance. The 28 acres of land include a sports area, a farm, a large walled garden, and a lot of woodland.

International and Local Volunteering

In August 2025, we will be accepting international volunteers once again.

Please only apply starting in January 2025 and submit an application form to us by May 2025 if you are interested in an international volunteer placement the following year.

Volunteering at the Beannachar Camphill Community for foreigners.

For a 12-month placement, we have up to 20 openings each year for international volunteer coworkers.

This is a fantastic chance to live together with other employees and the residential students we look after. You will become a part of a Camphill community with global connections.

In the residential homes, day services workshops, gardens, and throughout the estate in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, you will assist our students who require a variety of extra forms of help.

You will get a monthly stipend in addition to free accommodation and food.

You will also have the chance to study. You will have the opportunity to participate in our practice learning programs and induction training. Weekly one-hour workshops, field trips to other facilities, and sporadic specialised training sessions and lectures make up the practice learning program. All coworkers also receive training on health and safety, adult protection, manual handling, food cleanliness, first aid, and epilepsy. Volunteers who attend for a full year are eligible to receive a certificate, which can be very helpful when they go on to their next employment or college or university study placement.

The House Coordinator will provide you with monthly supervision and support sessions.

You will have plenty of free time to explore the stunning Scottish environment and take in Aberdeen’s and other attractions.

While some of our overseas volunteers come on a regular basis to help the community whenever they can, others form friendships with other volunteers that last a lifetime.

HOW TO APPLY

Please fill out the application below and send it back to volunteer@beannachar.org to apply to be an overseas volunteer. We hope to hear from you shortly.

Following the shortlisting of your application, we will get in touch with you and provide an invitation to an interview so that we can learn more about you and you can learn more about us. We will assist you in applying for a visa. In August, volunteers who are accepted will join us.

Only those who are able to volunteer starting in August 2025 should apply.

Vacancies and Volunteering

Present Openings

Our employees are committed, well-trained, and genuinely concerned about the welfare of our residents. Our employees are a vital part of our community in a special and rewarding environment. We occasionally look to hire people who share our values and are committed to offering high-quality help in our community.

Volunteer Collaboration

The Orchard Leigh Community upholds the Camphill custom of accepting residents and volunteers from around the globe to join their team. Usually, this lasts for a year, but shorter durations might be negotiated to accommodate unique situations. This is a fantastic chance to have a memorable trip, meet wonderful people, and pick up a lot of new skills. Working with and living with adults who struggle with learning should be something you genuinely want to do.

After completing the first introduction training, you will work with a team to help residents with a range of requirements, facilitating their daily routine when needed. This includes social, cultural, and workshop-related activities as well as activities connected to household and lifestyle welfare.

You must be proficient in both written and spoken English due to the responsibilities you will be carrying. Spoken language communication is a challenge for certain residents. Coworkers who don’t speak English well make things more challenging. Communication between members of our community is crucial since we are all concerned about the welfare of people.
