Commonly Asked Questions
Each year, we welcome volunteers from all over the world to learn about and experience our lifestyle. Make a genuine difference—it has the power to transform both your and our lives:
-
Is prior volunteer experience required?
The answer is straightforward: no! While prior volunteer experience or even a social science degree is always appreciated, we will provide you with training once you become a member of our community.
-
In The Mount Camphill Community, what can I anticipate?
Established for and with students who have a variety of learning challenges, the Mount Camphill Community is a flourishing and prosperous Independent Specialist Residential College. We also addressed, selected, and produced The Mount Camphill Cohousing Community, building on this experience. An inventive and trailblazing program for supported living for adults with and without special disabilities.
-
What is and is not included?
Your lodging, comfortable furniture, and meals are all covered. We also provide basic toiletries as assistance. In addition to a bed and a closet or chest of drawers, your volunteer room will come furnished with linens, bedding, a duvet, and sheets. Common areas including the dining room, living room, kitchen, and bathrooms make up the remaining amenities in the house.
-
What is the maximum duration of my stay at The Mount Camphill Community?
The longest stay we can provide is 12 months. We welcome requests for three-month university practical placements, and we also welcome placements from Waldorf schools. Send us an email with your request, and we will get in contact with you. However, please be aware that due to our extremely limited lodging capacity this year, we are unlikely to be able to consider short-term assignments.
-
How can I submit an application?
Only applications filled out via the online application form will be accepted between November and mid-February.
We are now beginning the application process. In order to get to know you, we require a Skype call, two references, a police and medical check, and more.

Making a visa application
Following the hiring process, if everyone feels that The Mount is the best place for you, we will formally commit to placing you, provided that you receive your visa. In May, we begin that process by submitting an application for a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) on your behalf. We will forward this to you as soon as we obtain it. The certificate is a unique reference number that is only applicable to you and The Mount; it is not a piece of paper and can be used for any other reason.
To guarantee that UKVI makes a decision in time for you to arrive by the preferred date, it is crucial that you start the visa application procedure as soon as you receive the certificate. Along with your CoS, we will email you instructions for your application.
-
How Much Do I Have To Pay Up Front?
You must pay the International Health Surcharge (IHS) and the visa application fee up front. The current fees in UK sterling are £1035 for the IHS and £298 for the application fee. Before your visa is granted, you might also have to show up for an interview and a biometrics appointment.
When you first join us, you will also be responsible for covering your own transport costs from your house to The Mount.
Please be advised that although you will receive a reimbursement for these expenses, it will be given to you in equal monthly installments during your stay with us. We retain the right, under certain conditions, to refuse to reimburse the remaining balance after your departure if you do not stay for the entire anticipated duration.
At the conclusion of your anticipated stay with us, we will cover your fair travel expenses back home. You will be responsible for covering any costs if you choose to travel during your leave or return home during your stay (for instance, for Christmas).

No. We don’t have enough accommodations or facilities to allow you to bring a dependent, so The Mount won’t be able to accommodate you.
