About the position
Design and build large-scale multilingual data pipelines: sourcing, cleaning, deduplication, language identification and script normalisation across high- and low resource languages.
Define and enforce quality requirements for multilingual corpora including translation quality, cultural faithfulness, toxicity and contamination tests.
Develop and perform scientific research to enhance our understanding of how to scale large language models using multilingual data efficiently.
Managed small research projects separately and larger tasks as a team.
Build evaluation sets and diagnostics that highlight where model behaviour fails by language, register, or domain, then fill those gaps with relevant data.
Collaborate with pre-training, mid-training and post-training teams to deliver step-function, measurable increases in multilingual capability.
About you:
Strong basics in software engineering and comfortable at processing web-scale datasets in distributed situations.
Experience developing big scale data pipelines for language models, machine translation, speech or search. Ideally in more than one language.
Fluency or working ability in at least one language other than English, and a real curiosity for linguistic difference.
A measurement-first mindset: you demonstrate that a data modification helped, rather than assuming it did.
Balance the trade-offs between research goals and actual engineering realities.
Comfortable with uncertainty, high ownership in a small, rapid moving team. Passionate about pushing the edge of intelligence.
WELL DONE
Master’s or PhD degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning or comparable field.
Publications in multilingual NLP, low resource languages or assessment technique.
Experience working with annotation vendor management or crowdsourcing data operations at scale.
Understanding of tokeniser design and impact on non-Latin scripts.
