This role may be eligible for visa sponsorship for Skilled Workers subject to eligibility and the UK Immigration Rules in place at the time of application.

Eligibility Criteria

To be a jail officer you will need to:

be 18 years old before you begin work

meet the nationality requirements for the Civil Service (see the section on nationality below)

because it’s a physically active work you will be need to pass a medical and fitness assessment as part of the application process

meet the required vision standard for both eyes (with or without corrective lenses)

All those training as a jail officer must have hearing to an acceptable standard (without the use of hearing aids) for safety reasons.

Tattoos are allowed, even visible tattoos, as long as they are not perceived as disrespectful, discriminatory, aggressive or menacing in any way. Facial tattoos are normally prohibited, unless they are for cultural, religious or medical reasons.

As this is a prison with a security status, you will need to get a Counter-Terrorism Check (CTC vetting). To complete the CTC vetting procedure you will need to prove that you have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years. Applicants not meeting the residency criterion will not be eligible to take up position at this facility. (see below CTC section)

Commute to Work

Some jail settings are in rural areas with poor public transport links, so a driving licence and own transport is an advantage but not a required prerequisite for the work (unless stated). Please note that shift start and finish times are defined and it is your obligation to arrive at and leave from your place of work for the start of your shift in a timely manner. Please note carefully the location of this vacancy and your means of transport before applying.

Weekly training is 37 hours/week. After the training you can opt to work 37, 39 or 41 hours a week. Your income for each year depends on the number of hours you work every week.

37 hours a week = £37,246 per year

39 hours a week = £97,375 per year

41 hours a week = £41,503 a year

All compensation statistics listed include any additional allowances relevant for the role/location.

Prisons are open all the time. This means you’ll need to work a variety of shift patterns including evenings, some nights, weekends and public holidays (these days are added to your holiday allowance). Most jails work on a shifting shift plan, 39 hours a week.

You may also have the chance to work extra paid hours.

Overview of the Job

To manage a portfolio of residential apartment buildings around England, we are looking for a committed and skilled property manager.

You will be in charge of making sure that communal services run well, upholding strict safety regulations, and cultivating a good rapport with leaseholders and Resident Management Companies (RMCs).

This position requires frequent site visits but gives the possibility of working remotely.

Important Duties

Maintenance & Services: Organise and supervise shared services like cleaning, general repairs, and expert gardening.

Make that the contractors fulfilll the service levels and KPIs that have been agreed upon.

Health and Safety: Make sure that every managed block complies with all current laws, with a special emphasis on asbestos management, health and safety inspections, and fire safety (including fire risk assessments).

Financial Management: Create and oversee yearly service charge budgets, keep an eye on spending, and supervise ground rent and service charge collection.

Site Inspections: Visit Southport and the surrounding South of England on a regular basis to interact with residents, evaluate building conditions and audit contractor performance.

Section 20 Works: Oversee large-scale construction projects, including the Section 20 consultation procedure, from start to finish.

Communication: Serve as the main point of contact for directors, developers, and leaseholders, offering expert counsel and effectively resolving conflicts or questions.

Insurance: Oversee building insurance renewals and client claims.

Requirements for Candidates

Experience: It is necessary to have at least two years of direct experience managing residential blocks.

Proficiency in Section 20 processes, the Landlord and Tenant Act, and current Fire Safety requirements.

Self-motivation: Maintaining high productivity and well-organised records while working efficiently from home with little supervision.

Travel: Possession of a car and a valid UK driver’s license to travel throughout England.

Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a focus on the needs of the consumer.

IRPM (Institute of Residential Property Management) or AssocRICS qualifications are highly sought after.
