Responsibilities

Make sure that the food and drink department runs well every day and that the service and quality are always high.

Make sure that food preparation and production are done in a way that is consistent and follows food safety rules.

Manage the kitchen staff, which includes cooks and bartenders, and encourage them to work together.

Make and use menus that are in line with current trends and meet the needs of your customers.

Keep an eye on the inventory levels and place orders as needed to make sure there is enough stock for operations.

Work with various departments to plan events and special occasions so that service is always smooth.

Senior Sous Chef or Sous Chef at a Progressive British Restaurant in New York City (Hudson Yards) for $80,000 to $90,000 plus moving costs.

This is a unique chance to be part of the opening team for a fresh new idea in Manhattan. We are looking for a skilled Sous Chef (Senior Sous level) to assist us open a restaurant that serves British seasonal classics at the Michelin and multi-rossette levels.

We are working with the well-known crew behind several Michelin, Michelin Guide, and Bib Gourmand restaurants in big US cities. They are bringing a new idea to Hudson Yards in New York City, and we need a Sous Chef that has a lot of expertise in fine dining, is creative, and—most importantly—has some media presence to help with a Category O-1 visa application.

The Idea

A restaurant in Hudson Yards, Manhattan that is not part of a chain.

Menu with British influences

A fine dining restaurant with 90 seats, a bar and lounge spaces

The kitchen has a semi-charcoal grill, a robata, a clay oven and gas.

At first, only dinner was served from 5 to 11 p.m., with brunch on Saturday and Sunday. Two rotations every night.

Number of chefs on the team: 10–12.

The Senior Sous Chef’s Job

Help the Head Chef run the kitchen for this important opening.

Take charge of your own creativity—there’s a real chance to help shape the menu and go up to Head Chef as the idea grows.

Help find, train, and grow the opening team.

Oversee portions, manage the pass, and keep the standards high.

Be a part of the restaurant’s public face. The visa demands some media presence, and the team will help you establish this.

You will get full training and learn about the group’s Michelin-level standards.

The Best Candidate

Strong Sous Chef or Senior Sous Chef who is eager for a new challenge and moving to New York City.
