The Team
The Applications team at ITS runs a huge platform with about 120 Kubernetes clusters to support its world-class life sciences services, training, and research. This platform combines a big on-premises VMware estate with a rising presence in the public cloud.
The Platform Coordinator will be in charge of all platform operations, including both on-premises user application platforms and public cloud services. This job makes sure that developers, bioinformaticians, and learners at EMBL-EBI can utilise platforms without any problems, get help, and see them grow. This directly helps EMBL-EBI’s training mission succeed.
To make sure that all environments are efficient, cost-effective, and provide high-quality service, the job involves strong technical leadership, stakeholder management, and a big-picture vision of how the platform works.
The Platform Coordinator will also be in charge of the Solutions Architecture function, which will make sure that all platform and solution architectures in the company are the same. This will be about making the technology landscape easier to understand, encouraging the use of reusable patterns and reference architectures, and making delivery more efficient while yet allowing for new ideas.
The Platform Coordinator is in charge of a team of DevOps engineers and Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) that work together to keep EMBL-EBI’s on-premises and cloud platforms running smoothly, reliably, and up to date. This includes Kubernetes, CI/CD tools like Gitlab, managing web traffic, web statistics services, and public cloud platforms like AWS and GCP.
