📌 EU Entry/Exit System (EES) Launches on October 12, 2025
With the official inauguration of the EU’s new Entry/Exit System (EES), non-EU travellers can now use an automated biometric system in place of manual passport stamping.
Upon entering the Schengen area for the first time, British nationals are now required to register their fingerprints and facial photographs. By April 2026, the system will be completely functional.

📌 October 14, 2025: Significant Statement of Changes to Immigration Rules
In line with the May 2025 Immigration White Paper and its Plan for Change, the UK government released a comprehensive Statement of Changes.
Important changes consist of:
- As of January 8, 2026, the English language proficiency criterion for Scale-up, High Potential Individual (HPI), and Skilled Worker pathways has been raised to B2.
- For the majority of applicants, the two-year graduate visa period was shortened to 18 months on January 1, 2027.
- The Immigration Skills Charge (ISC) would rise by 32% starting on December 16, 2025.
- Beginning on November 4, 2025, the HPI route will be extended to graduates of the top 100 universities worldwide.
- Botswana nationals now need a visa (as of October 14, 2025).
- As of November 11, 2025, “Part Suitability” will take the place of Part 9 (Grounds for Refusal) in the Immigration Rules.
Later in 2025, other plans for citizenship modifications and earned settlement are anticipated.
