New Statement of Changes Published For UK Immigration Rules, September 2023 Updates
A newly updated statement of changes was released by the Home Office on the 7th of September 2023. According to the statement, there have been some key modifications in the UK immigration rules. Let’s take a quick look into the European Union settlement scheme updates from the 5th of October 2023.
If your European Union Settlement Scheme application has been denied or canceled, you won’t be eligible for an administrative review request. The good news is that you can appeal the decision by aligning with the citizen’s rights agreement. Now this makes the appeal process much simpler and eliminates dual redress options.
Let’s discuss the enhancement of youth mobility schemes. Recently, Canada and Australia’s bilateral agreements have been fortified according to which 18 to 35 is the new age bracket. Also, the two year stay duration was increased to three years. Andorra has also joined the scheme, which will be implemented from the 31st of January 2024.
Next, let’s look at the amendments to the long residence rule. Some categories have been excluded from the lawful residence definition after April 2023. Previous versions of immigration, bail and certain visa routes are covered through this exclusion, which will be effective from the 5th of October 2023.
Also, new appendices have been introduced. Appendix Children is one of the new appendices covering child dependents requirements and independent child applications. And this will be effective from the 5th of October 2023.
Also, the appendix Returning Resident, focuses on the former residents of the UK and also replaces immigration rules in paragraphs 18 to 20. This will also be effective from the 5th of October 2023.
Electronic travel authorization, also known as ETA scheme. There have been some changes in the ETA scheme, which will launch in October 2023.
The changes included NHS debt as a refusal ground being removed. However, it is important to note that border entry can still be refused. Also, according to another update, some travellers will have to prove their Irish residency and this change will be implemented after the 5th of October 2023.
Finally, let’s talk about the expansion of English language requirements starting from the 5th of October 2023. There will be six more routes through which you can use certain qualifications to prove your English proficiency. That’s all for today from us.
