Home Office Announces Implementation Dates of New UK Visa Bans & New Immigration Rules. After months of anticipation and speculation, the UK Home Office has finally confirmed the implementation dates for a swathe of new visa restrictions and immigration rule changes announced in December 2023. The ambitious five-point plan, aimed at significantly reducing net migration, has ignited heated debate amongst politicians, businesses, and immigration rights groups.
1. Skilled worker visa salary threshold hike effective April 6th, 2024, the minimum salary requirement for skilled worker visas will jump from £26,200 to a staggering £38,700. This new 50% increase is intended to attract highly skilled professionals and address concerns about wage depression in certain sectors.
2. Care worker visa revamp reforms that will restrict care workers from bringing dependents and require care providers to register with the Care Quality Commission if they are sponsoring migrants, will come into force on the 11th of March.
3. The laying of immigration rules, which will include the removal of the 20% going rate discount for occupations on the shortage occupation list, will come into effect on the 14th of March.
4. The new increase to the minimum salary required for those arriving on the skilled worker visa from £26,200 to £38,700 on the 4th of April.
5. Increasing the minimum income requirement threshold in stages for family visas starting at £29,000 from the 11th of April
6. The government also takes a significant step forward in the long-term modernization and enhancement of the UK border security, with the Electronic Travel Authorisation ETA scheme opening for the remaining nationals of the Gulf states and Jordan on Thursday, the 1st of February.
ETA new requirement for passengers visiting or transiting through the UK who do not currently need a visa for short stays, or who do not already have any other UK immigration status. It will continue to be rolled out worldwide throughout 2024. Once fully implemented, the scheme will enable a more efficient customer experience and cement the UK as a world leader in border security. From today, 31st January, the government is also enhancing how the UK does business with the rest of the world. Reforms to the visitor visa will be implemented, expanding the permitted activities to make it easier to do business in the UK.
