Energy grants – up to £1,500

Customers who are having financial difficulties may be eligible for grants from UK-based energy companies; however, the exact amount of assistance you may receive will depend on your situation.

While Scottish Power households can receive up to £750 in grants, British Gas offers grants up to £1,500.

It might be worthwhile to get in touch with your energy provider to see what options are available to you.

Fuel vouchers – £50

If you use a prepayment meter, you might be able to get a one-off voucher to top up on electricity.

The voucher comes via the Fuel Bank Foundation charity, and is offered through a range of organisations, such as Citizens Advice and various food banks.

A one-time payment of £235.70 is required for the winter of 2023–2024; approximately 26,000 payments were made in 2022–2023.

Children and youth in Scotland are eligible for assistance if they meet one of the following “qualifying benefits” and are under the age of 19.

• The highest rate of the care component of Child Disability Payment
• The highest rate of the care component of Disability Living Allowance for children
• The enhanced daily living component of Personal Independence Payment
• The enhanced rate of the daily living component of Adult Disability Payment

A minimum of one day in the third full week of September needs to pass for claimants to experience this.

By completing a paper application available on the Scottish Government website, anyone who qualifies can apply.
