5-Year Work Visa For Indian Students Pursuing Masters In France

Indian students who are pursuing their Master’s degree in France will now be eligible for a 5-year work visa, announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This means that Indian students will be allowed to work in France for a period of 5 years after completing their studies. This decision aims to provide more opportunities and encourage Indian students to study in France.
Paris: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is currently visiting France for two days, spoke to the Indian community living in France at La Seine Musicale in Paris on Thursday night. Indian students studying in France will now be able to stay in the country for five years after completing their master’s degree, thanks to an announcement made by PM Modi.
The Prime Minister was warmly welcomed by a lot of people at La Seine Musicale, a place for music and arts on an island on the river Seine. They were excited to hear him speak.
The government of France made a decision during my previous visit that Indian students who study in France will be provided with a visa to work for two years after they finish their studies. PM Modi said that Indian students who are studying for a Master’s degree in France will now be given a post-study visa for 5 years.

Earlier, Indian students who are studying in France used to get a work visa that lasted only two years.

Steady Growth Of Indian Students In France

According to the latest information from the Indian Foreign Ministry, more Indian students have been going to France for further studies in the past three years. In 2022, more than 6,000 people who wanted to study abroad picked France.

Student Visa Types
*For short-term courses, students can apply for a short-stay visa which is valid for three months or 90 days.
*For courses exceeding 90 days or 180 days, students will be issued a temporary long-stay visa, which will require no further formalities on arrival in France.
*For courses exceeding six months, students will be issued a long-stay visa (equivalent to a residence permit) which will be subject to further formalities on arrival in France.

Documents Required To Apply For A Student Schengen Visa

  • Two Visa Application Forms: The forms should be fully filled, with correct and honest answers. The signature of the student in the form is mandatory.
  • Photos: As per the Schengen visa photo requirements, the photos should be taken within the last three months.
  • Valid Passport: Issued within the last 10 years with validity of at least 3 months. A copy of the passport’s biometric data is also required.
  • Previous Passports: Tie previous passports together with a rubber band. Do not staple.
  • Proof Of Residency. Document issued by the students’ country as proof that they are a citizen or resident of that country.
  • Roundtrip Reservation Or Itinerary: Specifying the dates and flight numbers of entry and exit from the Schengen area.
  • Travel Medical Insurance: A document provided by your European health insurer that certifies your comprehensive insurance coverage for the entire Schengen territory during your entire stay, with a coverage amount of €30,000 for emergency healthcare situations.
  • Proof Of Accommodation: Proof of accommodation where a student will be staying at.
  • Dormitory Contract: Signed between the student and an official of a dormitory in the country where he/she will be staying.
  • Rent Agreement: A contract with a property owner in this Schengen state.
  • Letter of Invitation: A letter written by a resident in the country the student is applying to enter. The letter confirms that the resident is willing to take the student to his/her home throughout the period the student will be there.
  • Letter of acceptance at an EU University/College/School: An official and signed letter stating the student’s name/type of studies/length of studies/part of a European program if applicable/number of hours per week.
  • Proof Of Academic Qualifications: Proof of last academic qualification.
  • Proof Of Financial Means: Documents that show the student can financially maintain him/herself during their stay in the Schengen zone. Proof can be; Scholarship, bank account statement, last three months’ bank balance, sponsorship, or proof of paid visa fee.
  • Proof Of Occupation: Students must have proof of enrolment and no objection letter from the University.
