  • Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust
  • London, United Kingdom
  • Salary: £31,944 – £34,937
  • Accepting applications until: 09-Jul-2025 23:59

Overview of the Job

It is required that you have firsthand experience prior to applying for this position.

For the Westminster Older Adults and Health Ageing Community Mental Health Team and Home Treatment Team, CNWL is seeking a carer or peer support worker. This position was created especially for those who have both personal experience with mental health issues and living experience of caring for others with mental health issues. Carer peer support workers will encourage others to believe that recovery is possible by sharing insights from their own experiences.

With a primary diagnosis of dementia and/or functional mental health needs, the team is a dynamic service that helps people manage their physical and mental health, live in the least restrictive environment, and aid in their recovery. In order to offer service users and carers a comprehensive service, the service is co-located and collaborates closely with the mental health service of Westminster City Council. Furthermore, we are involved in the CNWL project’s adoption of Open Dialogue, a cutting-edge, recovery-focused, person-centred approach to crisis and ongoing mental health care.

Principal responsibilities of the position

By offering a non-hierarchical, multi-functional, and multi-disciplinary service that leverages the knowledge of every team member to provide person-centred assessment, care, and support, we hope to truly impact the lives of older persons. We put a lot of effort into creating a culture that is empathetic and caring. In order to provide our service users and carers with the finest care possible, we have assembled a proactive and cohesive team of professionals that are empowered to collaborate across functional boundaries. Medical personnel, nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, administrators, support staff, assistants, and clinical psychologists make up the team. This makes it possible for us to provide person-centred, comprehensive treatment that enhances patient satisfaction and eliminates the need for repeated handoffs.

In order to help service users and carers reclaim control over their life and their own individual recovery journey, the carer or peer support worker, an essential and highly valued member of the multidisciplinary team, will offer them formalised peer support as well as helpful advice. In order to help improve the wellness of family and carers of individuals with mental health challenges, they will also collaborate with others.
