JOB PURPOSE:

Taking charge of personal and general care duties in the home with the intention of guaranteeing that residents receive high-quality care in compliance with company standards, rules, and procedures as well as other legal obligations from statutory and regulatory organisations.

DUTY AND ACCOUNTABILITY

I. The General

All jobs in the home are subject to certain obligations:

1. To assist the management team in all facets of the home’s operations by making sure that one is aware of one’s own obligations and responsibilities and by pledging to operate within the predetermined parameters of the position.

2. To collaborate as a team to provide a welcoming and secure atmosphere that supports the home’s residents’ physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being. According to the VIPS framework, this entails upholding a high level of care by implementing a person-centred care approach:

a. Valuing: the unwavering appreciation of an individual irrespective of their disease

b. Individualised, meaning I treated each person as a unique individual.

c. Perspective: examining the world from an individual’s point of view

d. Supportive: offering a constructive social setting where an individual can feel content

3. To encourage the development of a warm and inviting environment for all residents of the care facility. Confidentiality and consideration for residents, their family members, and friends are part of this.

4. To guarantee knowledge and comprehension of the company’s policies, procedures, and standards as well as any additional legal requirements from regulatory agencies.

5. To uphold the anti-discrimination policy and encourage equal opportunity.

6. To participate in professional trainings and staff meetings as needed.

7. To offer support to expert organisations conducting workplace assessments or inspections as needed.

II. Principal Responsibilities

1. To oversee a group of personal care helpers.

2. To exhibit capable leadership that fosters the growth of the care team by providing coaching, performing evaluations, and supporting trainings.

3. To take part in the work schedules, which may include weekends, evenings, and bank holidays as needed, in order to effectively provide care for every person while maintaining their dignity at all times.

4. To encourage professional cooperation among coworkers (e.g., management, nurse, kitchen; GPs, pharmacy, etc.) that entails exchanging information and help when required and suitable.

5. To offer care assistance that is suitable for the resident’s state of health. This indicates that understanding the resident’s unique needs and preferences—such as their medical history, particular dietary requirements, anxiety triggers, etc.—is a prerequisite for this responsibility. This could entail the following duties:

  • Assisting with showering and bathing
  • Assisting with transfers from wheelchair to toilet, from bed to chair, etc.
  • Assisting with personal grooming (e.g., keeping skin, hair, and nails clean and presentable; assisting with dressing)
  • Offering assistance with the toilet
  • Supplying food and beverages or provide complete feeding aid
  • Meeting specialised medical needs (such as diabetes treatment)
  • Offering support or encouragement when administering medications

6. To help keep the home tidy by offering assistance with minor cleaning in bedrooms or in common areas.

7. To assess care needs, provide and carry out care instructions, and review the care plan’s results.

8. To assist in carrying out risk analyses.

9. To submit and update required care paperwork on a regular basis (e.g. care plan, care charts).

10. To guarantee that residents show up for required visits with doctors and other medical specialists (such as a chiropodist or general practitioner).

11. To keep an ongoing eye on and record health-related issues. You should notify the manager and/or the charge nurse right away if you see any changes or irregularities.

12. To acknowledge the value of social activities, entertainment, and therapies provided to residents in improving their quality of life. This implies that while taking into account each resident’s unique requirements and preferences, the staff must be open to taking part in the events that are held at the home.

13. To assume responsibility for maintaining ongoing professional and personal development in the social care sector by reading current publications and journals and participating in pertinent trainings, meetings, and courses.

III. Compliance

1. To guarantee knowledge of and compliance with the following rules, guidelines, and policies:

a. Policy for Medicine Administration, Control, Custody, and Disposal

b. The complaints process and confidentiality policy

c. The 2016 Act on the Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales)

d. The PPE policy and infection control

IV. Health and Safety System Management

1. To support the necessity of maintaining the workplace’s health and safety by implementing safe practices, which include:

a. Complete knowledge of fire safety procedures and exercises

b. Complete knowledge of and compliance with PPE and infection control policies

2. To assist the Manager and Management Team in carrying out their responsibilities as “responsible officers” for the Home as stipulated in the Fire Regulations and the Health and Safety at Work Act of 1974.

3. To guarantee that facilities and equipment are handled and used appropriately.

4. To assume responsibility for promptly informing the manager of any accidents, infections, or injuries sustained at work by oneself, a coworker, or a resident.
