What does a home care worker do?
Duties:
Give people in their homes or residential care facilities personal care and support
Help with daily tasks like washing, dressing, grooming and using the bathroom
Give medicine according to the timetables that have been set
Make meals and help with feeding if needed
Do small chores around the house, including laundry and cleaning
Go with clients to appointments and outings
Keep an eye on and report any changes in clients’ mental or physical health
Be there for clients and give them emotional support
Experience:
It’s best if you have worked in a comparable position before, although more training will be given.
Knowing the basics of caregiving and how it works
Being able to talk to clients and their families in a clear way
Kind and patient behaviour
Good at following directions, paying attention to details, and organising things
