In order to acknowledge the importance that the Council and the Government place on encouraging more people to travel actively (by walking, bicycling, and wheeling) for daily trips, Westmorland and Furness Council has a dedicated team focussing on Active Travel.
The Sustainable Transport and Highways Service of the Council, of which the Active Travel Team is a part, creates and implements policies, plans and initiatives to promote the growth of an integrated, sustainable and inclusive transport system throughout the Westmorland and Furness region.
Who are we trying to find?
In order to assist the expansion of active travel in the region, we are seeking an officer to join a dedicated, amiable, and encouraging team.
Do you have any of the following experience: creating planning for routes for bicyclists and pedestrians, designing and implementing active travel programs, changing behaviour, or having a keen interest in active travel combined with outstanding project and contract management abilities? We are seeking an officer who is passionate about promoting behavioural change and securing investment in infrastructure for active travel.

You will support people referred through programs like GP Exercise Referral and Falls Prevention by conducting inclusive, secure, and productive sessions in places like Lifestyles Centres and public spaces.

You will create customised fitness regimens, facilitate group workouts, and offer encouragement to assist participants become more self-assured and independent.
