The reasons behind Students & Immigrants are leaving the UK?

Students & Immigrants are leaving the UK: Lately, UK is in use for all wrong reasons, mainly due to major changes in the immigration rules, which are not friendly for immigrants who want to settle here in the UK, and hence many students are leaving UK for reasons as they are not finding UK as a favourable destination to settle down. Today we’ll discuss the top five reasons based on what we know from interacting with many of you on a daily basis. If you want to know all the reasons why students, their dependents, and other immigrants are leaving the UK, make sure to read the post till the end.

Students & Immigrants are leaving the UK

Reason 1: Layoffs happening in the UK

If you are watching news, then you may already know that companies are still laying off across the globe, and not only in the UK. In fact, there are many news not even published or still not in the media. But the majority of the students and immigrants who are booking my meetings have already confirmed the mass layoffs which are happening now. Such news are creating havoc on people’s lives, especially immigrants. We know so many international students who recently moved to the UK work visa also, and few people who came directly from India on skill visa are massively impacted with layoffs. They are given only 60 days to find a new employer who can sponsor their visa. And if you fail to do that, they’re asked to leave the UK unless you move to any other valid work visa. So let’s help each other. If your company is hiring and providing sponsorship, please do comment your company’s name and what kind of job is available so that students or anyone reading this post can take advantage of it.

Reason 2: Lack of skills which are needed in UK

Everybody moves here with the expectation to get a good job with good pay based on whatever they were earning in their home country. However, when they land in the UK, they realise that either their those skills are not in demand or if they manage to find a job, they struggle to get a good way. We personally know so many of you who are accountants or who worked as a manager in India. You have to work in warehouse or retail jobs as you are struggling to get jobs as per your desire. Majority of the people who are doing better than other industry are in it medical and architects. So our piece of advice to people who are planning to move to the UK in the future, try to get skills in this fields to have a good job and a decent salary, but come with some 2 to 3 years of experience as UK market is tough now.

Reason 3:  Not getting PSW which is post-study work permit

Few students are not getting psw because they have failed a course or did not pass their dissertation. Many students who apply for a UK post-study work visa do so before completing their course or dissertation. Another reason is that students are applying for a graduate visa from their home country, which means you are not eligible, as this was clearly mentioned by the Home Office, that you need to be in the UK to get UK’s graduate visa, which is PSW. In such cases, students are allowed to stay in the UK only till the time their student visas valid for unless and until they manage to move to any of the UK’s visa category like skill, visa, healthcare, visa, Global Talent Visa. But they have very limited time and hence they are struggling to find jobs.

Reason 4: Many students took carer and senior care jobs as that was the only visa sponsorship job available to them

Most of the students move to the UK with a dream to settle down in the UK. But when they land here, they realize the job market is tough and they don’t have the right skills and experience needed in their industry, and hence they don’t get jobs with sponsorship. But since students take a huge amount of student loans and they want to pay it back soon, so they offer carer or senior care jobs even though they don’t want to do it. This is their easiest route to be in the UK. However, after working for few months or 1 to 2 years, they realise this is not a job. They want to continue further due to high pressure and less pay. That’s why they are getting frustrated and they are going back to their home country.

Reason 5: Financial instability

Well, we all know about UK inflation and how the cost of living has gone up and hence not only international students, but even others are struggling with the cost of living and finding it difficult to survive in the UK. The prices have gone up for rent, food, utility bills, and everything that you can think of. The main reason for inflation is the sharp rising energy costs driven by the Russia-Ukraine war, now due to cut off of Russia gas supplies and energy. It resulted in high cost. So this energy crisis is slowing down the UK economy and affecting common households. Speaking to a few international students, they mentioned they are struggling here along with their dependants as they are not able to cope. They have 510 people living in one bedroom house. Their savings are almost zero, and they don’t see a point to be here as they cannot afford, and hence they are going back. So before I wrap today’s post, We want to reiterate the UK job market is tough and if you don’t have the skills which are needed here, you will not be able to survive.

We keep repeating in our post that UK is not a degree based market, but experience based market and experience in your field. Hence, if your experience is in demand industry, you can land a job and a job with sponsorship later. So these are the top five reasons why people are living in the UK.
