MORE THAN 100 CARERS FACING DEPORTATION IN UK

CARERS FACING DEPORTATION IN UK: Over 100 migrants may be in the UK without authorization as a result of the care agency losing its authority to support visas.

CARERS FACING DEPORTATION IN UK

LONDON: The Home Office has deprived Renaissance Personnel, the care business that sponsored the visas of over 100 migrants of the authority to endorse visas, raising the possibility of their entering the country illegally.

With only a few weeks to obtain new sponsorship or return home, the decision has put these workers and their families in a vulnerable predicament, according to a Sky News report.

In April 2023, Mohammad, a 45-year-old father of four, move to the UK after paying a recruitment agent £19,000 with the intention of providing a better future for his kids. But soon after he arrived, he found that the job he had been promised never materialised. The children of Muhammad, who were renting a modest home and had started attending neighbourhood schools, are now facing an uncertain future. “They were dreaming that they would go to the UK. Our schooling will be excellent. They are now concerned,” he said to Sky News. His kids ask him all the time, “Baba, what will we do?” They claim that they currently have nowhere to go.

His circumstances draw attention to the larger problem that many refugees face. They are left stuck in the UK without a job or money after paying large sums to intermediaries for job chances.

Fajar, another immigrant, had similar aspirations when he arrived in June 2023, but he has also ended up in a similar situation—having worked for only a few days since his arrival and finding it difficult to repay the money his parents borrowed to send him to the UK.

The Brighton, London, and Buckinghamshire-based Renaissance Personnel has come under fire for reportedly hiring more foreign workers than it had jobs for. The agency argues that it followed the right procedures and attributes the problem to the inconsistent work hours in the care sector, but the Home Office’s decision to revoke its licence raises doubts.

The contracting body for Renaissance Personnel, Brighton and Hove Council, attested to having been notified of the investigation and the ensuing licence revocation. All future referrals to the agency have been put on hold while the council considers any potential dangers.

According to the Home Office, it is unethical to exploit migrant workers, and they are striving to assist individuals affected in finding other employment. But many, like Mohammad and Fajar, fear for their families’ lives and future because they are in a precarious condition due to lack of income and uncertainty about their legal status.
