3 New UK Updates | UK Government Announces New Date

The latest UK immigration insights! In this informative post, breaking down the three most recent updates issued by the UK Government. The information shared today is vital for both current UK residents and those planning to move to the UK.

UK GOVERNMENT

Update No. 1

The first update on our list is IHS. So yes that is for IHS announced. This is sixth of Feb 2024. Previously it was communicated 31st of Jan which is not correct. So the final and the new date is sixth of 2024 where there will be increase of 66% in the IHS field. From this chart, you can see how the fees has increased for one year visa. Today. If you are paying £624 from sixth of Feb, you will be paying 1035 for students and their dependents youth Mobility Scheme applicants and children. Today, if you are paying for £70, you will be paying £776 from sixth. Now, this is a classic example of five year if you’re applying for a visa for five years. So as a main applicant, if you’re paying 3120 today, you’ll be paying 5175 from 6 to 5. The major change is happening here. If you look at the main applicant with a partner and two children, if you’re paying 10,009 40 today, you’ll be paying 18,110 from six Feb. This is a drastic increase for people with family. Now, if you’re wondering if everybody needs to pay IHS, the answer is no. Few people are exempted from a fee, especially for people who are working in NHS like say, doctors, nurses, carers, senior carers and their family members who are here on dependent visa for you, you don’t have to pay IHS and also IHS is paid at that time when you apply for your visa, when you pay the application fee, you also have to pay the IHS also for people who are coming to the UK for less than six months, you don’t have to pay the IHS. For example, if you’re coming as a tourist, you don’t have to pay the IHS. Now, if you are wondering why there’s increase in IHS, there are two reasons. Because IHS has not risen since October 2020, and due to net migration, there has been a lot of pressure on NHS staff, and hence they want to hire more people so that they can bring the NHS staff to reduce the pressure and which they increase IHS they want to hire more staff with that. So these are the two reasons which is cited by the UK Home Office.

Update No. 2

Now let’s move to the second update, which is about UK regretting its decision regarding student. So if you’re wondering what I’m talking about. There’s a report from Financial Times which says that UK universities risk falling into deficit as foreign student numbers fall. Well, there is a detailed report by PwC which talks about the financial stability of UK universities. Now, it says that PwC have analysed 84 universities and based on the analysis, they’re saying anywhere from 51 to 80% of UK universities could fall into deficit if the international enrolments declined from 2024 to 2025 onwards. Now, let me remind you, India and Nigeria are the biggest source market today and they have already seen a decline in Jan 2024. And if this continues, UK is definitely on a decline. Now, quick reminder to people who don’t know what changes were announced for students who are planning to study in the UK from Jan 2024, or who already started studying, you cannot bring your dependent anymore unless until you are on a research based course or PhD. It means if you’re a master student, you cannot bring your dependent. If you’re a bachelor students, you cannot bring your dependent only if you are on a research based course and you can bring your dependent.

Update No. 3

Now the third update is regarding the visa application delays. You are already aware and you know that there’s a huge delay in issuing certificate of sponsorship, which is cause now you guys would be wondering why there is a delay because previously this was issued within weeks or within two weeks or even a month. Now it’s taking a lot of time. Now, if you are following BBC news, you should know that there’s a lot of scams going on in the UK. There are few companies who are licensed employer, but they are selling you as two people for £15,000 to 18 to £20,000. Now because of this UK Home Office, they are trying to do due diligence to check whether the cost is genuine or not and whether a real job exists for those migrants and hence they are taking a lot of time. Of course, there’s a lot of impact on the genuine and legitimate business. However, UK Home Office thinks this is the right step they should be doing and hence their following. I strongly ask you not to do it if you have the right skill set and if you have the right experience, UK will hire you definitely the right way.

Now before I wrap up this Post, I want to say there is no official update on when the new rule will be implemented for carer and senior carer, where they cannot bring their dependent visa. Initially it was set somewhere in Jan, however there’s no official update so if you hear anything just remember it’s just a rumour. Second is about the new salary threshold. It was previously said it will be in April. However there is no official update on exact date of salary. Now regarding PSW there is no official update again. So please stop the rumours that PSW is closing. It’s not closing now and the last is about the shortage occupation list. As of now they have not closed the shortage occupation list unless until there is a final and official update by the UK government. So those were the updates from me from the UK.
