UK major changes for Student, Carers, Skilled , Dependent and Family visa: ukvi
Breaking News! NEW UK VISA rules ANNOUNCED on 4th Dec 2023: TOUGHER UKVI Immigration updates.Major, important updates which are being made on 4th of December 2023. So if you are on a health and care visa, or if you’re on a student visa or you are on a skilled visa or a family visa, and if your job is on the shortage occupation list, you are impacted. I’ll be covering five major updates and announcement which was made on 4th of December. Now remember all the five updates which I’m covering? This is not a proposal anymore because the proposals I had covered previously. This are new laws which will be implemented from autumn 2024.
TOUGHER UKVI Immigration updates
Update number one for health and care worker visa.
Overseas care workers will not be able to bring family dependents to end the abuse of the health and care visa. So if you are planning to come on a health and care visa from autumn 2024, you will not be allowed to bring your dependents. Your dependent is your wife and your children. One of the reason why you government is updating the law is because of the number of people who had moved on this visa category last year, and now they think if they put this update one 20,000 dependents will be restricted to come from next year. And they are doing this to control their migration. And also the new update is that now any care home which have to sponsor a foreign worker, they need to be regulated by Care Quality Commission. So if your care home is not regulated by Care Quality Commission, you will not be able to move to the UK.
Update number two, which is about the salary threshold for skilled worker visa.
The salary threshold for the skilled worker visa is 26,200, which is the minimum salary threshold for you to be eligible for skilled visa. Now they have increased by 50% to 38,700. So it means if you don’t get a minimum salary of 38,700 from autumn 2024, you will not be eligible for UK skill visa because UK is following one based system and you need to collect 70 points.
Update number three, which is about the shortage occupation list. what does the update says?
It says that the government wants to scrap cut price shortage labour from overseas by reforming the way people working in short staffed sectors can apply to come to the UK. What does it mean? In simple terms, the government is making it harder for people from other countries to get. Jobs in the UK that are in short supply. They are doing this by removing the discount that was given to people from other countries who were paid less than the usual salary for those jobs. For example, as you know, if your job is in the shortage occupation list, you can be paid 80% of the salary as compared to the local people who are given 100% salary. So what it means for the UK companies who hire foreign nationals, they can bring cheap labour to the UK and they also get exported later. So they want the UK companies to upskill their own people or even train them, and they are making it harder for them to bring the foreign workers.
Update number four for Family visas.
So again, it’s not a very good news for people who want to migrate to the UK because they will see now the UK companies are little reluctant to hire foreign nationals for the update, which is about the family visa. As we all know, the minimum salary for the family visa today is 18,600, which was not changed from 2012. Now the new changes from autumn 2024, the minimum salary treasury for a family visa will be raised to 30. £8,700 to ensure people only bring dependants whom they can support financially. This is a major update for the family visa.
Let’s move to the last update, which is about the student visa.
As we all know from January 2024 now, students cannot bring their dependents unless until they are on a research based courses like PhD. However, the UK government has asked MAC, which is the Migration Advisory Committee, which is an independent body which advises the UK government to review the whole UK student visa and post study work permit, which is the graduate visa, prevent abuse and protect the integrity and quality of UK higher education. Now we also know what the MAC is going to come back and advise the UK government and make sure there will be some changes which will be proposed in the future. So if you’re planning to come to the UK on a study permit, it’s better you make your decision now.
Those are the five major ukvi updates which are made on 4th of December. Let me know what you guys think of this news and which visa category are you currently on. Just remember one more point that the Home Secretary also announced plans to raise the immigration health surcharge from £624 to 1035, which was already announced before. So before I wrap this post, I know that I’m not giving a very great news to all the people who wants to migrate to the UK settle in the UK. However, the measures which the UK government are taking is because they want to cut down the migration because the last year the net migration was approx seven lakhs, which was a huge number, and they want to cut down this migration by almost 50% and hence all the measures are being taken to reduce the migration. Let me know your thoughts in the comment section and if you are impacted by this news, let me know.
