Concerning Jisc:
Jisc has been at the forefront of digital solutions for UK research and education for thirty years, revolutionising the creation, sharing, and use of information.
We are in a unique position to safeguard, advance, and spearhead the industry’s digital and data transformation, improving society, communities, and students. As a group, we are
constructing an improved digital future for research and education.
Our culture of continual learning can help you reach your full potential. We’re all about progression at Jisc, so take on new challenges, hone your abilities, and create a career that fascinates you.
The position
With our dynamic skills framework—a clear, motivating road that helps you advance quickly—you will accelerate your career as a Software Developer at Jisc. You’ll advance in accordance with transparent, quantifiable standards based on your technical proficiency, opening the door to your next phase as soon as you’re prepared. It all comes down to supporting your ongoing growth, challenging your abilities, and realising your full potential.
Developers in this position are expected to work autonomously and assume responsibility for tasks that are somewhat challenging. They should contribute to architectural decisions and show that they are proficient in debugging, testing, and optimising code. They frequently serve as mentors to others, work well in cross-team collaborations, and take the initiative to enhance workflows and code quality. They demonstrate an increasing comprehension of the entire development lifecycle and the capacity to strike a balance between technical and business requirements.
What you are going to do:
utilising cloud-native techniques and contemporary engineering methods to design, construct, and maintain scalable, secure systems.
refining technical specifications in collaboration with product owners and users, then converting them into organised development activities and architectural choices.
directing debugging and performance optimisation throughout the stack, overseeing testing operations, and putting automated test methodologies into practice.
presenting stakeholders with new features and technical improvements while outlining engineering decisions and trade-offs.
contributing to the design of cloud and application architecture, including infrastructure patterns, pipelines, and deployments.
keeping an eye on how Jisc’s programs function in practical settings and making sure development efforts are in line with industry demands.
promoting an inclusive, feedback-positive atmosphere, facilitating cooperative problem solving, and mentoring others to support team effectiveness.
What we’re searching for
Experience producing software that is ready for production, assuming responsibility for tasks, and making contributions throughout the stack where necessary.
Although a solid understanding of contemporary software development languages and practices and a willingness to learn are more crucial than particular technologies, it is ideal to have knowledge of Python and/or Typescript, SQL, Terraform, CDK, GitHub, and AWS.
The capacity to plan, design, write, test, optimise, and document software with little direction, prioritising maintainability and simplicity.
competent in source control procedures, performance tuning, debugging, and making architectural and design judgements.
a proactive, inquisitive approach that is dedicated to ongoing education, enhancing teamwork, and fostering inclusive cooperation.
Clear and succinct communication facilitates balanced decision-making, shared problem-solving, and constructive criticism.
Not fulfilling every prerequisite?
