Wedding and Events Coordinator – UK visa sponsorship
A chance to be at the forefront of London’s wedding scene
Meridian Grand is a purpose designed luxury wedding and events venue in North London. We have over 300 events a year, Pakistani to Nigerian, Somali to Bengali, Tamil to Gujarati, Punjabi to Jewish, Turkish to Afghani and mixed-heritage, with its own customs, timetables and expectations, and we can help you to hold your special day.
This facility hosts some of the country’s biggest and most elaborate weddings. There are very few places in London where you would learn more, or learn it faster, if you’re creating a career in events. Our reputation goes ahead of us in this sector.
We do it everything ourselves. Venue, catering, decor by Midnight Garden and event management all under one roof, so a client can plan their full wedding with one team. We also do dry hires and every event has outside suppliers of one form or another, therefore a big part of our work is liaising with outside providers and organising them to the Meridian Grand level.
Each event has an Event Coordinator
Lots of places will sell a room and open the doors on the day. From the moment a booking is confirmed, every event at Meridian Grand (including dry hires) gets a named Event Coordinator. We have a reputation for providing the best weddings in London and that only happens when one person owns an event from start to end.
The function in a sentence
You take a signed contract and make it the occasion a family talks about for the rest of their lives, standing next to them as it unfolds on the day.
What the job actually is
The handover. You are confirmed in and allocated to your booking. You make a self-introduction to the customer and establish the line of contact that will run for the next six, twelve, occasionally eighteen months. And from then on you’re their person at Meridian Grand.
The planning You meet them, you listen, you guide and you translate their vision into operational documents that others can execute: the running order, the floor plan, the culinary function sheet, the décor brief. You engage with our head chef, with Midnight Garden and our operations team to ensure what has been promised is achievable and you brief and organise any external suppliers the customer is bringing in.
The pressure spots. Numbers change. Families fight each other. A vendor disappoints somebody. Someone’s mother has a very clear idea of the stage. You work it out, you take it all in and the client sees a calm professional with it sorted.
The day. You’re ready for it. You walk the room before anyone else does, you sign off the décor before the client ever sees it, you brief the team, and then you stay at the client’s shoulder through the event, holding the timings, giving the kitchen its notice before every course and solving problems before the family knows there was one.
Then. You close the event correctly, then continue to the next event, and you get structured feedback from the customer. We use that feedback to keep improving the business and our offerings.
You’ll have a portfolio of events at different phases all at the same time. The job is to keep them all in a system you trust, not in your head.
What we want from you
You have a way with people
Every day is someone’s most important day at Meridian Grand, and you bring all of that to our clients.
We want someone who is warm but not a pushover, who can counsel a client rather than just agree with them, and state that something won’t work in a way that makes the client more confident in you.
This is not for the person who likes to work behind a screen.
You are highly organised
You will be doing numerous weddings in parallel, at different stages, each with its own deadlines and its own set of people waiting on you.
We measure document completion against the deadline and take it seriously.
You can work while it is work
You’ll be on hand for your clientele because weddings tend to take place in the evenings and during the weekend.
This is not a nine to five, Monday to Friday job.
You are required to be available on weekends and evenings.
What we care about
No formal qualifications needed.
We don’t care where you went to school or if you went to uni.
